The Funen Art Museum

The Funen Art Museum is one of Denmark's oldest art museums, presenting in a chronological hanging the main trends of Danish art from the end of the 18th century onwards. In the older section of the collection, works by Funen artists predominate.

Explore the works at the museum using a seeking frame. You can borrow one made of wood from the museum staff when you arrive.

The seeking frame can be used as a lead-in to a conversation about the works of art - both pictures and sculptures. You decide for yourself which and how many works you wish to examine.

Pictures: Often you tend to look at the whole picture. But try exploring some of the details. Suddenly you will discover things you otherwise might miss: figures, shapes, colours, the individual brushstrokes... Perhaps completely new works of art will emerge from the work! You may also find details you afterwards would like to draw for yourself.

Sculptures: It is possible to walk all the way round sculptures, which consist of many parts, like a human body. With the seeking frame you can zoom in on details and find the shapes hidden in the sculpture. Are the shapes angular or curved? Does the sculpture seem to be heavy or light? What is the sculpture made of?
