1805: Napoleon conquers Austria and Prussia

Did you know that...

...As early as 1812, Hans Christian Andersen made his début as a walk-on actor on stage at Odense Theatre

In 1821 Hans Christian Andersen made his début at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen in the part of a troll in Carl Dahlén's ballet "Armida". In 1832 Hans Christian Andersen's own play "Kjærlighed paa Nikolai Taarn" (Love at Nicholas' Tower) was performed at Odense Theatre. 

 
 

1998

On 31 May 1998, the Japanese emperor Akihito and empress Michiko visited Odense and the museum together with crown prince Frederik. Curator Ejnar Stig Askgaard showed them the exhibitions – Here they are seen in the reconstruction of Andersen's study in Nyhavn, where the crown prince admires the poet's silk hat.
